PHP on Windows Servers

I'm sure I've posted something before about PHP.  I would rank myself as a complete novice where PHP is concerned, but I'm interested to learn that we've been doing a lot of work to improve support for PHP on Windows Servers.  Specifically, we have a new FastCGI implementation that will ship soon for IIS6, and that FastCGI support will be a feature of IIS7 on Windows Server 2008.

Earlier this week at the Zend PHP Conference we announced a new partnership with Zend with these aims...

  • Zend will redistribute Microsoft's FastCGI component in their Zend Core product.
  • Zend Core will fully support the Server Core installation option in Windows Server 2008.
  • Together, Microsoft and Zend will deliver technology that allows PHP apps to accept information cards, as produced by the Windows CardSpace identity selector.
  • This week, we released the first CTP of a SQL Server 2005 driver for PHP.

Exciting stuff if you're a PHP developer and you want to target Windows.  Does it mean we're losing our focus on ASP.NET?  No, of course not, but it shows that we recognize there are developers who need to target multiple server platforms, and we want to make sure those people get the best experience possible from Windows.

The Register picked up on these announcements.
