I few people in smaller organizations have told me they’re concerned about their ability to use the new features available in Windows Vista and/or the .NET Framework v3.0. On the whole, I think this is down to the pace at which our technologies are evolving, but maybe WPF puts a slightly different spin on things. Small outfits feel concerned that they won’t be able to get “Stunning User Experiences” in the same way that more affluent organizations can, by hiring design studios. A typical MicroISV might not have graphic design skills to match their coding ability.
Whether any of this turns out to be accurate remains to be seen, but in the meantime Microsoft has launched Project Glidepath. Aimed at MicroISVs, it intends to help these people get the best out of our newest technologies. It’s still in its infancy, but I’ll be keeping an eye on it.
